how has obedience to the commandments helped you?  why is it important to learn to follow the commandments in your youth?

--> i love the connection they make in this section of verses between the liahona and the scriptures.  verse 44: "behold, it is as easy to give heed to the word of Christ, which will point to you a straight course to eternal bliss, as it was for our fathers to give heed to this compass, which would point unto them a straight course to the promised land."  we know from the story of the liahona that nephi and his family simply had to obey the commandments, and in their times of faithfulness they were shown exactly what to do and where to go.  the scriptures will provide the same guidance and direction for us, as we are faithful and obey the things we are taught in them.  i find i am much happier and at peace when i am strictly keeping all the commandments of God.  learning to keep them when you are young is beneficial because it establishes those habits early on, and you are more likely to continue to follow them as you get older.  you see repeated results of happiness and peace, and want that more in your life.
