alma 27: 1 - 15

how difficult might it be to keep your covenant and not go to battle to defend yourself and your loved ones?  how do you think the Lord feels about those who keep their promises to him?

--> i like to apply the physical challenges of the book of mormon to the social and emotional challenges of today.  in this particular story, the anti-nephi-lehis refuse to take up arms, and choose to die instead, because of the covenant they have made not to fight.  they were willing to die to defend their honor and keep that covenant.  today, it is uncommon to be asked to go to war and fight with weapons for our faith or beliefs, but we are at war every single day.  we have made covenants at baptism and in the temple, and have the strength we need to keep those covenants no matter what, if we choose to do so.  the Lord feels happiest when He sees His people as a covenant making and a covenant keeping people.  the promises we make to the Lord are great and have powerful blessings attached - blessings that He so desparately wants to give us!
