what do you think it means to open our ears and hearts to those who are called to teach?
--> i like that it distinguishes a difference between opening your ears and opening your hearts. you can open your ears and hear all kinds of things, but until you open your heart, those things won't make a difference or have any meaning in your life.
one thing i love about being a member of this church is that there is no paid clergy. we all take our turns in different callings, or positions, in the church. because of this, anyone could be called to teach a lesson in a sunday class, or give a sermon during the main congregational gathering. sometimes it's easy to criticize the people that are called because they may not be as eloquent a speaker or as entertaining as we would hope, but it's important to remember that they are the ones who have been called at that particular time to teach, and are therefore given the spirit needed to deliver an effective message.
