jacob 3: 1 - 14

how has praying with faith helped you during a time of trial?

--> my first transfer as a missionary i was so down.  i was with a trainer that i didn't get along with.  i had no friends in the mission.  i had no idea what i was doing.  my back was in excruciating pain everyday.  i didn't know we were being disobedient.  i was feeling overwhelmed.  there were some days when i didn't feel the spirit because i was so mad at my companion for one thing or another.

i remember one afternoon, after lunch, just going into the bathroom (only place you can be alone as a missionary...) and sobbing.  just pleading that Heavenly Father would allow me to love this companion.  the day that my prayers changed to that from "help me get through this" was the day that transfer turned around.  i never liked that woman, but i grew to love her and the things i could learn from her, for better or worse.  i applied the scripture in moroni 7:48 which says to pray to the Father with all the energy of heart that you may be filled with His love.

i prayed with so much faith that the Lord could heal my circumstances by changing my attitude about them.  it wasn't immediate, but as i put my trust in Him and took steps in the right direction, i learned to love my circumstances.  looking back now, it was a perfect start to my mission, and things could only go up from there.

"hope is the use of faith when despair is easier."  i will always love this quote because to me, it embodies the perfect use of hope and faith in our lives.  despair will always be easier, but faith will always bring lasting blessings and peace.

the church is true.  no doubt about it.
