3 nephi 5: 1 - 19

according to these verses, what is the role of a disciple of Christ?  what are some ways we can fulfill this role?

--> the phrase that stuck out to me the most in this passage was, "they did serve God with diligence, both day and night."  when i think of a true disciple of Christ, i think of someone who's mind and heart and will is so aligned with the heart, mind, and will of God, that they are not only doing what Christ was do, but they are being what Christ would be and what Christ is.  they have dedicated their lives - both in the day and in the night - to helping others and serving as Jesus would serve if He were still here.  this passage also speaks about the importance of forsaking all sin and repenting.  constantly trying to be better, more holy, more pure.

one of the challenges of living in the time that we do now, is the busy nature of our schedule.  we have so many things going on that remembering to serve can be pushed to the back burner.  it doesn't seem urgent, so it is easier to forget and not make a priority.  i love what elder christensen says in his book "the power of everyday missionaries" - that every calling we have is a missionary calling.  everything we do in this life, everywhere we go, gives us opportunity to be like Christ and serve as His disciple.
